Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of heroes who will split off from the main group to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.
This warrior group includes the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.
What Defines the Combat Party
According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might seem mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment show why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
First, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, entering the secret base, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.
The antagonist then cleared his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each character has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
- The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a nasty place.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
- However, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the party reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
- Tyranny and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- Teor is marked for death by the family.
This leaves them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.
What’s Next?
From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to form the Explorers and Strategists tables.
Viewers can anticipate learning which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
