A two-month journey circling Australia is being halted following the tragic passing of an elderly female passenger who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a remote tropical isle.

The passenger had been hiking on the remote island with other travelers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the party for a break. The vessel sailed away leaving her and came back later that day after the crew realised the lady was missing.

A major search operation found her person the subsequent day.

Investigative bodies are examining the event, in coordination with law enforcement and the medical examiner.
